Secure computer peripherals

Wired mouse is better than wireless one. Also, for headphones too.

The thread below was a great answer if someone were to buy a wireless one, but what attacks target peripherals and if there are any recommended peripherals that are secure or mitigate known attacks out there. It would also be great if recommended peripherals work on Linux and QubesOS.

It is no longer 100% true with the advent of these malicious cables:

Wired is still generally desirable, privacy and security wise. But honestly I am using wireless mouse now (that isnt logitech).

tbh, the attacks outlined (like Samy Kamkar’s on Microsoft Wireless Keyboards) require physical access (in this case, bugging a victim’s place). If that’s the case, you couldn’t even trust wired peripherals, as there’s no amount of wires / software that can prevent all maliciousness.

For instance, a year ago, researchers demonstrated that accurate keyloggers can be built (mirror) by merely capturing acoustic vibrations (ex over mic on a victim’s phone if nearby).

Bluetooth have always been a security mess cve-2023-45866 and cve-2024-0230.

At the very least, Bluetooth has the chance of being patched via firmware or software security update. And people are actively prodding it for weakness.

Yeah, but you got like thousands of different mice brands and not all of them have a Product Security Incidence Response Team. Most of these random brands probably have connection unencrypted. So, better just use wired without all of the hassle wireless comes with.
