is there a secure wireless gaming mouse available? for example, open source drivers and support latest versions of bluetooth or dongles and good performace(I’m currently using razer viper v2 pro and logitech g pro x, are there any similar alternatives?)
I seem to fail to see how exactly a mouse should be secured, its not like it is sending password keystrokes like on wireless keyboards.
Maybe something could be inferred from movements and clicks from a screen-only keyboard? Other than that, am I missing something?
I can only recommend Logitech Unifying or Lightspeed devices here, both support firmware updates via fwupd and use encryption.
The G305 is an excellent mouse at a great price. And has Piper/libratbag support.
But you already have a Pro X which is Lightspeed and so is already an encrypted connection.
you ain’t gon be gamin over bluetooth
because HID is HID, an attacker could send keystrokes to open terminal and run scripts or arbitrary data to attempt kernel exploit.
So this about those fancy mice with Arm processors that could potentially be co-opted/hacked/flashed/modified into frankenstein rubber duckies and spit out keystrokes instead of mouse clicks? Those macro-programmable mice?
while that could be possible I moreso meant far easier attacks like the following:
Hi, I’m kind of a noob when it comes to hardware, what do you mean by encryption? Would the same apply to external USB keyboards? As for fwupd, oddly enough, it has never detected any of my mice. I use wired only.
Everything that goes over the air is encrypted and can’t be snooped on, which is good.
Is this typically listed in technical specs for mice? If so, I should probably do a refresh on the ones I use.
If you are taking gaming seriously, check out the “Mouse Review” Reddit and their Discord for suggestions. The best mouse to buy, by far is the DAV3 wired, performance and cost-efficiency wise. I do NOT recommend Logitech, overpriced and Chinese mice dominate the wireless mice market in terms of both performance and cost-efficiency.
I wouldn’t consider my 70€ Logitech G Pro X Superlight overpriced.
