I looked at the Contributor badge and I have some questions about how to earn it:
I have about 15 commits at the moment. Do I have to link my GitHub account to my Discourse account here for this to work?
Does it have to be a very important, or does any commit count towards this badge?
I’m aware that it’s likely some of the forum users (probably a lot more than average) here don’t want to publicly create a link between their respective PG forum account and GitHub accounts.
You do have to link your GitHub account, it’s automatic. Honestly I’m not really sure how reliably that badge granting is in the first place, I haven’t poked around with it much. Seems like there are less granted than one would expect.
Apparently it finds this data based on commit email. You have been committing with GitHub.com, and your email preferences on GitHub must hide your real email address because the public email you’re using is their fake 47955724+taivlam@users.noreply.github.com address.
So yeah, Discourse won’t associate that email with your account unless you link them. If you committed to GitHub with the same email as your Discourse account, then the badge would probably be granted even without linking your GitHub account in your forum preferences.
