I see an increasing amount of people around me (not tech/cyber/privacy aware, just regular people) talking and expressing concern about the C-2 Bill in Canada.
Upon reading a bit about it and especially the following article by Tuta, I’m wondering how to fight it, like the folks here who used the Fight Chat Control website/premade messages to officials. Looking for guidance!
Grassroots effort by private citizens. Contact your local MP and express strong opposition. Encourage others to do it. Spread awareness.
The issue with such bills and proposals is that few understand the importance of privacy and even fewer are willing to or able to take time out of their lives to do anything about it (in my experience).
But citizen lab, EFF, and many other entities are against this and have written about it enough to explain it all for even the average person to understand what’s what and why this is terrible.
I wrote to my MP about C-11 and they got back to me. So I can say that your local representatives do read letters sent by their constituents.
Thanks for the reply Scott! I’ve emailed my reps with a personal made letter and added a specific sentence about the letter you mentioned (which I added as attachment to my email)
