Can Multiple Profiles Restrict Social Apps?

I feel like I’m asking so many questions recently, so apologies for the influx. I’ve seen discussion on social media in the forum, but I don’t recall seeing an answer for this question, so hoping I’m not double posting on accident.

I have to use social media apps for work, but I saw in my Graphene OS research that the OS allows for multiple profiles on one phone. Would keeping all the social apps in one profile, and ONLY using that profile for doing social media, restrict their data mining? Or would having the apps downloaded onto the phone give them access to snoop on all the profiles I have on said phone?

With my threat model, social media is a relatively high worry for me, but on the flipside it’s my main form of work. So I’m just trying to find the best way to mitigate my risks while still using the apps for now. I can control what I choose to post on socials, but I’d also like to lessen the background data mining I know they do.

Thanks all!

Yes and no. It depends on your other settings especially your network settings. Now, I am not sure how GOS specifically ensures no correlation can be made by apps collecting info from other profiles on the same device on the same network (presumably). But I do recommend using a VPN or a different VPN than your “owner” profile for good measure. What I recommend is using Mullvad but with a server override location details just to ensure it is not one of the “main” IPs of MUllvad that gets blacklisted by popular services like Google for tons of CAPTCHA. Or you can use ProtonVPN with Stealth Mode too.

No. This is not the case. This much I know for sure.

Doing it this way on mobile with different profiles if on GOS is the best way I can think of.

I also however recommend asking the same on the GOS forum directly to see if they have any insight on the best way to go about this (not that what I said above is invalid or anything..)

I think it is a bit safer to get another cheaper phone if you arent hurting that much in this economy. You’d get better compartmentalization and generally less configuration issues.

Thank you both! I’ve been looking into getting a cheap phone for social apps but I’m not sure I can swing it financially, sadly.
