Bill Gates Declares the End of the Smartphone Era and Unveils Its Surprising Replacement

If this is the solution I want my problem back.

I’m sorry but the man should continue doing what he does best - philanthropy. He’s been out of the industry as an active executive for many many years now and I don’t think all his opinions and views should hold equal value just because he is the Bill Gates.

This is where critical thinking comes in. Media should stop validating irrational narratives companies and popular figures in the industry are trying to push more likely than not for their own benefits. Stop being sheep, people.

Privacy advice today: Use your phone! Desktops are a security nightmare!
Privacy advice in 10 years: Use your electronic tattoo! Phones are a security nightmare!

The security “benefits” of these digital tattoos aren’t worth the enormous privacy risks. This would mean the end of digital privacy and anonymity.

And the best part? They’re invisible, meaning no more holding a phone or carrying a bulky device around.

Holding something and carrying it around isn’t a bad thing.

The tattoos could replace the need for passwords, credit cards, or even physical keys.

We already have Passkeys to replace passwords, and the others don’t need to be replaced.

If these tattoos become mainstream, it could mean the end of screen addiction. Without the constant distraction of staring at a smartphone screen, we might experience a more focused, less fragmented interaction with technology. This shift could fundamentally alter our social behavior and even how we relate to one another.

No. It wouldn’t. People will just end up addicted to their tattoos instead. If it can do everything a phone can do, what makes them think people won’t endlessly scroll TikToks on their digital tattoo?

Tattoo without a keyboard?

Could be worse. I mean, if you read any of the recent press releases from Ive and Altman, you’d think some sort of iSuppository was around the corner.

Agreed, I honestly thought this article would be about those perverts over Microsoft explaining how we need their pervasive AI in a chip in our brains (that’s admittedly more Zuck style) but, noooo it’s tattoos, didn’t see that coming.

I straight up throught he was dead for some reason :skull:

Tattoos? How is this supposed to work in the winter or in other situations that require long sleeves?

No way in H E double hockey sticks.

I guess the idea would be that they are attached to your body therefore can't be stolen?

Maybe it could: just involve a knife and a lot more pain. Threat shift I suppose.

But honestly I’m not sure why we need to focus on authentication based tattoos first. Let me at least get aesthetic tech tattoos so I can look straight out of a cyberpunk world if we have to deal with a cyberpunk world.

@Privium @news Ignoring my suspicion that Gates’ predictions over the years aren’t much better than anyone else’s (when he wasn’t in a position to force it on eveyone anyway), I’ll just say: you first Bill. And then we can talk after a couple of upgrade cycles.

Am I the only one that fully expects that guy to usher in the mark of the beast?

Did Bill Gates actually say something about this technology himself? All the articles talking about this just seem to reference each other. No primary source.

The news outlets running this story don’t seem very reputable either.

Finally someone said it!

@Privium oh, thank you, “great Oracle” /s

Even his philanthropy is debatable as far as I’m concerned.

According to Medium, Gates points to electronic tattoos, developed by Chaotic Moon and later acquired by Accenture

Clearly he has stocks or some sort of interest in these two companies, othewise why else would he be spruiking them. Also the Chaotic Moon website is down right now.

The medium article doesn’t have a source either it seems like some AI slop possibly.

Bill Gates was never seen as a visionary

This is a hiliariously true take.
