This is a must watch. This guy is a real expert. And he backs up his arguments with solid research and evidence. And it’s quite disturbing.
Any TL;DW summary?
I skipped around the video and didn’t stumble across anything privacy related.
I think a new rule should be to add an abstract or summary of sorts for linked video posts. Videos (and audio, like podcasts) are much more difficult to skim over than articles, so they need extra justification/contextualizing if posted so that we can know how it is, as you said,
However, I think the above rule would probably only apply to non Off Topic video posts, since no justification/contextualizing is needed in Off Topic (due to the fact that it is off-topic).
Like you, I skimmed over the video and saw no relevance to privacy. But because it is off-topic, maybe it does not need to be.
Maybe this is something to dwell on further, however. The bigger the forum gets, the larger the amount of posts there will be that requires policing. And because of that, the larger the amount of potential junk posted. Thankfully, though, there doesn’t seem to be much junk right now.
I saw this a while back. It’s pretty good, but the host of this channel is too much of an Apple fanboy for my liking. I’m referring to other videos of him that I saw that didn’t sit well with me.
Agreed. An off topic section that enables people to express their interests without polluting the primary focus. It enables some basic level of human connection you get IRL, though not the same. I think they are a valuable part of keeping members engaged so long as there’s a mechanism to ignore it for those who come here with a more info gathering mindset.
Yeah, it’s gonna happen as soon as you decide to curate information with community interaction that leads to more reflection and diverse information versus leader interaction which often leads to a bit of regurgitating research papers in the same location. Both have their merits but I think communities enable people to engage and get more interested and therefore learn as they also have a hand in curating and questioning the information rather than just passively reading it.
Tradeoffs man. IMO this post is a bit of mental masturbation and preaching to the choir in the church of privacy and big tech haters but why not. Were just establishing our values as a group.
