Anti facial recognition apparel

does anyone have experience designing adversarial images to thwart ai facial recognition? I’ve created a design that presents almost 100% occlusion in both eyes on Face++. I’m looking to collaborate with the right people.

Is that better than medical face mask+shades?

If it is, is it weirder and grab the attention of the general public more than the suspicion that arises from using medical face mask+shades?

Can you enter 7-11 with it and if there are guards, will they tell you to take it off? The guards manning the 7-11 asks me to politely to please remove the shades (but not the mask).

I’m sure as heck the guards at the bank wont let you in with something weird on your face as they are instructed to have your face unobscured for the camera.

i was recently visited china and i find this face tech is really awesome you cant find this in usa, you will be tracked with face and many biometric but china have many nice features like with just a face scan you can enter metro without any ticket or anything things are too smooth. i think this is really nice to have.

Thats… creepy and dystopian!

Its like money can be deducted from your bank without your control and consent, just because your face happened to flash by.

Tell me again if you can go around easily with a bad social score?

I would be lying if I said that these features are not convenient. In an ideal world, your biometric data would serve only your needs - providing additional security (essentially through 2FA) and freeing you from carrying your ID, bank cards, or similar items in some circumstances.

However, we don’t live in a utopia.
It’s much simpler for governments to offer their citizens attractive quality of life features and discounts in exchange for voluntarily surrendering their biometrics than it is to enforce it physically. Through such small gifts or conveniences, they can provide all the data needed for tracking themselves. Over time, this process can become so normalized that people end up accepting it as the norm.

Can you provide an example?
From what I’ve seen, “privacy-protecting” fashion items often have the flaw of being either quite flashy or outright weird-looking. Even if they are effective against cameras or even AI surveillance, such items may prompt manual checks.

Reflectacles, I think, is a good example. These glasses work well against IR cameras, but they would stick out as a “bright flash” at night, while not protecting you from normal cameras. On top of that, you’ll have to constantly look through green lenses while wearing them.

Don’t take it as me criticizing your efforts. It’s just that in some places, even a somewhat normal shades+mask combo can give you weird looks. It feels like it’s very hard (if not downright impossible) to combat that kind of surveillance.

It’s creepy and dystopian for sure but I think the rest is wrong
Your money isn’t going to be deducted, the biggest problem here is Social Credit itself.

also OP why fo you exactly want an anti facial recognition solution? it’s not like you’re in a country of constant surveillance like China right? Depending on the threat model that’s likely going to the extreme.

Looking at trends these day, I expect every country in the world to fit into that description sooner or later

Things like this will only work limited time until the algorithm has been improved.

Especially in countries like the UK and China who love their citizens and punish those who object this will most likely only just get you in trouble and make you stand out.

No not like that you have option to register your face at stations vending mechine and your money will be deducted from the wallet with your face and this is really smooth like i just walked into and did not even stop it just automatically scaned and opened the gate. i really liked this

You should not have a bad social score on first place. I was there for 10 days or so and have fun… But i find they are actually living in the future.

a creepy future at that, as cool as it is, being constantly surveilled and lacking the freedom of speech in fear of affecting factors such as lowering social credit, I’d much rather seppuku here and then than live in this dystopia but that’s my 2 cents. Not to mention this country is also know to require to face scan AND ID users to access a video game or something, otherwise, goodbye no playing this game, moderating our gaming times not to mention, ridiculous.
Also you’ve struggled to get signal working in there right?
LIke imaigne if you didn’t have Tor or ProtonVPN to access it, Chinese people really dont have this kind of privilege.
Again it’s a country of constant surveillance, monitoring every single move you do and dare go against them or do things they don’t like they will take away your rights, including flying to other countries.

Watch even when you make passport or social sec or even now a days some universities take biometric registration even companies do this.
So this all are for govt or private companies if they want to do bad they will and they can.
So in that case i think providing convenience is a bigdeal to me. With biometrics.
Yes for your information even india which have same population as china have something called aadhar which has everything iris to face scan and also all fingerprint scans and liked to your everything recently got leaked…
So govt will have this info… But if they provide you convince i really don’t thing it is bad.

Have you been there i would ask you to first go there and then you will understand.
I feel US india or china collect similar information about their citizen…maybe EU a slight exception.
And yes i dont know about china or india or EU UK BUT usa does chip level surveillance intel management engine

the EU and US is nothing like that, I have watched TechAltar’s video that was also shared in PG btw but I dont remmeber whcih post exactly i dont seem to easily find:

shenzen having way too many cameras creeps me the fuck out and I think everyone agrees.
And where do you hear a credit score that is affected by what you say politically and taking away your rights in the US LET ALONE EU which is disgusting to say the EU is affected. Where do you also hear countries that monitor user’s gaming times, require an ID and Face Scan? None, just china and this is what the community wants to prevent happening in other countries.
Not to mention the forced trying to scan on the Metro, In Japan of all countries they still use cards, no Face Scan, creepy

Due to this there is no such crime…
Unlike US students shoot by a teen and enters schools with guns…look i am not saying china is good somehow they are doing everything that a superpower will do.
And also they are not a democracy still in my visit i saw the good.
Their government schools are even better, maybe even better than my university, which was a prestigious one and hard to get into.

yes however have you ever thought that if the US properly handled gun control this wouldn’t be a problem.
In the EU it certainly isn’t a problem yet we have the right to anonymity and privacy, we don’t need dystopian cameras are watching, monitoring every citizen, regime goverment decides what to do with their citizens country like china, just good laws like the EU (/EU Countries) do. Especially when it comes to firearms and other things.
I do acknowledged china has cool things, again I watched the techaltar video, however we should also acknowledge that the way china does surveillance and controlling it’s citizens hard is problematic.

here is my first design, I’m working on 2.0 now and 2.1 is in the works.

sadly it seems we are quickly headed in that direction

Wouldn’t covering the face/eyes with anything also prevent facial recognition?
