I think stuff like this should be treated like fingerprinting. Are you willing to “stand out” more and to what degree? Here in the US we don’t deal with CCP level surveillance, but Walmart spies on us. But if you go into your local Walmart with sunglasses and a mask every time you’re just going to be known as the sunglasses and mask guy.
they can somewhat work against infrared/laser based depth detection
I spent some time on this and made shoddy anti-facial recognition hats back in 2017 & 2018
ultimately there are so many other techniques (height/gait/clothing/jewelry/beacons) that are actively used that this is fruitless
We need to do Dune sandwalks with pebble with your shoes to alter your gait as well
Maybe we can also plater the EURion constellation randomly in the design as well to hinder processing
I mean I guess it would, but I’m working towards this working by just putting on a sweatshirt or a hoodie perhaps. I think as AI evolves, so should this tech. just mho.
Another, more complicated identifier is your EMF, which is a function of your heart, cadence, body shape and size, and is also unique.
In-light of the above, I HAVE always known that airport security is bull, and thus are passports.
I do suspect that, IF, this kind of tech is being used - it will be for the select few at the moment. A future Homer problem
I see a distinction between identifiability (fingerprintability) and conspicuousness (standing out). Someone who walks into a Walmart with sunglasses and a mask every time would be known as the sunglasses and mask guy, which stands out but is less identifiable. Someone who walks into a Walmart without the sunglasses and mask would blend in but be uniquely identifiable. Sometimes it’s better to blend in and not stand out, other times, it’s better not being identifiable.
Without saying anti-surveillance fashion should be dismissed or supporting fatalism, these issues make it increasingly impractical. There are too many identifying features (biometric and non-biometric) to protect against, surveillance has become ubiquitous, surveillance technology is continually improving, and societies are turning hostile toward privacy. However, as previously suggested, a hat, sunglasses and medical mask (or some combination thereof) may provide face protection without (depending on where you live) attracting too much harassment.
@Vutt Alternatives to defeating facial recognition may be defeating other biometrics. Examples include skirts against gait analysis, gloves against hand size analysis, anti-surveillance fabrics.
