Just a few quick points to consider.
- It’s slowly becoming impossible for people to prevent themselves from being identified by the most advanced surveillance technologies, but consider that only some locations/institutions will be equipped with those technologies, and those may require certain optimal conditions like good angle and lighting.
- Even if people cannot prevent themselves from being identified all the time, the more measures they take, the less data they will give away and the less reliable analyses will be.
- Seems there’s no way around ALPR surveillance depending on where one lives unfortunately
and it’s most likely illegal to cover license plates. - Don’t think about just AI recognition technologies but also the possibilities that humans (by looking at footage themselves) and social media (through uploading of photo and video footage) could also lead to people being identified.
- Adapt countermeasures (camera avoidance, device usage, attire, behavior etc.) according to threat model, socio-cultural norms and laws, and one’s own activities’ needs.
- With all this talk about attempting to defeat biometric surveillance, don’t forget to practice digital and financial countermeasures like killing cellular, Wifi, Bluetooth and other emissions except when necessary, and paying with cash or other private methods.
