Alternative to nextdns

I am looking for some alternative to next DNS i find controld but I don’t find reason to pay as i dont need much 1device and with that i can even cross 200k request per month.
And adguard free option does not offer any logging just last 20 logs but i need the logging.
I have used pihole before but switched away as does not support many new features i don’t just need a ads blocker.

NextDNS is pretty much the best option feature-wise. Why do you want to switch?

One device only? Well you could always use an app on that device to handle network-side ads.

Android - RethinkDNS
iOS - Blokada (only does ad blocking with paid version or custom DNS)
Windows/Linux - Safing’s Portmaster (only logs permenantly with paid version)

rdns dev here

OP mentions they want to switch because the NextDNS free-tier may not be enough for them. Their usage is limited to just 1 device, and find paying $20/yr wasteful.

I don’t find reason to pay as i dont need
much 1device and with that i can even cross
200k request per month.

If I were to guess, ControlD (and even AdGuard DNS) may have surpassed NextDNS as far as the feature-set is concerned.

If that device is Android, you’re in luck. A list of tools I’ve used:

  • AdAway
  • DNS66
  • Intra (getintra.org)
  • personalDNSFilter
  • Rethink DNS + Firewall (I co-develop this)
  • TrackerControl
  • NetGuard

Note that: Intra bundles Firebase Analytics.

What features does a Pi-Hole not have that you need in your DNS device?

3rd party services:

  1. NextDNS
  2. Adguard Private DNS
  3. ControlD

Self-hosted:

  1. Adguard Home
  2. Pi-hole

But if you truly only have one device you have many more options available to you, since you don’t need something network wide, you can use something local and on-device, it doesn’t need to be a hosted option.

No. You have unlimited devices with NextDNS in the free plan.

The max is 300k btw as per the screenshot above

Adguard Private DNS is very similar to Next DNS. Even better imo.

I think that the “they” that @ignoramous was referring to was OP, not NextDNS.

In other words: “Because OP has just one 1 device, it seems wasteful to pay $20/yr for a NextDNS subscription” (at least that is how I interpreted their statement).

Nextdns does not have a support window and also
The reason is not that 300k is not enough it is i can barely finish 90k and my laptop combined under 200k.
I want to switch to something mainly 2 reason i think nextdns no longer maintained and i want to switch to a better service.
I have used rethink when it was just released.
I like it though but i am looking for a dns provider that like nextdns.

It does not have dot and doh and you have to run this in your laptop locally so not that useful good if i run that in a server.

They does not offer logging they only log for last 20 query

In this list i have personally use rethink and tc not slim playstore one i like rethink more but tracker control is also good.

Some years ago i have paid for a year because that was cheaper but i couldn’t able to even use 300k ever not a single month but i have suggested this service to my friend he is also a paid customer and he need almost 800-900k as he play lot of games and many devices are connected with his router.
So i stop paying…
Mainly i stay as minimal as possible not that much apps and use linux.

I believe this to be untrue. Let me double check.

edit: Okay, I can confirm, I have no 20 query limit on the free plan:

@brivacy I think you should put in a little bit more effort in your posts. Not only are they hard to read, but also contain some false statements as showed above.

Do you know what are those 2 servers in the free plan, I haven’t tried adguard ?

That is strange i cant get more than 20logs what is wrong with my account

Sorry but i have used adguard before and i couldn’t get more than 20 logs.
I don’t know why.

They updated the web UI only recently and are running servers all over the world (130+ locations). This costs a lot of money so they are definitely still “maintained”.
