Alternative to GrapheneOS and Pixel that adds SD-Cards and Headphone jacks

As of right now, Im running an old Samsung Galaxy S7 with LineageOS and some parts removed, because it doesnt want to break.

Im now looking for a new daily driver since my current one has seen better days. I was originally looking at a Pixel 7 to throw GrapheneOS on, but there are a few things that bother me:

  1. I would like my daily driver to have a microSD-Card slot.
  2. I would like my daily driver to have a 3.5mm Headphone jack
Sadly, there is no newer Pixel that offers any of these features, which would mean that this is the death I have to die.

My question is: Is there any phone on the market that offers these capabilities while still providing the ability to root? (Although, as of the information Im aware of, GrapheneOS is unmatched when it comes to privacy)

Also, since it will be my daily driver, it should be under 6.5" diagonal and have decent cameras.

No.

If you are merely looking for extra storage space the pixel comes with a usb-c to usb-a adapter and you can use your choice of USB drive for external storage. Likewise with a usb-c to headphone adapter. It is probably not worthy buying a dedicated phone for it. It is less necessary now to have microsd now that phone storage is available so large.

Speaking from personal experience, USB-C to headphone adapters such in general and on Graphene. There’s a lot of weird behavior with how audio works when plugging in the adapter & headphone. Also, the adapters I have used break really quickly.

That’s true but it is a work around. Now days bluetooth headphones are cheap enough for general use and the main use case is for hifi wired headphones, so that is kind of a niche.

Just find your next lineageos phone. And be happy. They now have android 14 :tada:

Happy and insecure.

LineageOS doesn’t support Verified Boot.

LineageOS is known to not ship firmware updates.

LineageOS ships userdebug builds.

Some unofficial LineageOS builds disable SELinux or set it to permissive mode.

Most of the builds can’t even keep up with WebView and Android updates.

All of the above are just the tip of the iceberg, recommending LineageOS, /e/OS, etc. is extremely harmful.

Really great headphones will not even work with phones because of the high impedance requirements.

The Apple USB-C to aux is the only one I’d recommend. Every other one I’ve tried has issues, but the Apple one has been fine with anything I’ve used it on. 0 problems with any of my IEMs.

Thank you, ill probably go with that!

I got some DT 900’s, they work fine and are good enough for me. When you come to that point where you have such high impedance, you probably wouldnt want to you use phone anymore anyways.

This was about unofficial builds of LineageOS, which a lot of people use because of XDA forums.

I edited the post to make it clear that was about unofficial builds.

The Motorola devices supported by CalyxOS have a headphone jack and SD card slot: Device Support

The Fairphone 5 also has an SD card slot but no headphone jack and it is one of the few phones with good custom ROM support and a relockable bootloader.

A tutorial on how to get amazing sound without a headphone hack:

Get an Apple USB-C to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter. There are two variants of these, depending on where you live.

There is an European variant, that will be less loud because of laws that protect the hearing of Europeans.

And then there is a US variant, which is louder because the US cares about your hearing as much as it cares about your privacy.

Anyway, both options are really great, and they’re under 10€.

Then you get a pair of 7Hz Timeless IEMs that absolutely run circles around any wireless earbuds, you plug them into the adapter, and that’s it.

There is one downside: you can’t charge and listen to music at the same time. There are a few ways to go around that:

If you’re using an iPhone, then just use their MagSafe charger.

If you have an Android with wireless charging, then buy a case and a wireless charger with magnets to replicate MagSafe.
