Allow to remove or replace old reactions

After a specific time, you can‘t remove your reaction to a post or replace it with another.

I have no idea why and I think this is actually a bad thing.

For example, if you react to a post with :+1: and then someone explains one day convincing and right later why the post isn‘t true, I‘d like to remove my past reaction and would like to replace it with :-1:. Why aren‘t I allowed to change my mind?

I think a :ok_hand: or :raised_hand: would be more useful for that purpose. You can make an objectively true statement and still get :-1: from some passive aggresive person too scared to offer their own opinion. Emoji spam is annoying and pointless, unless the intent is to cause annoyance. I had to mute someone for doing that.

What’s wrong with just making a forum post explaining your change of heart?

I think it’s a good thing. After a certain time your reactions gets locked in and inscribed into the sacred privacy guides texts. Be grateful you aren’t living in the age of pen/ink/vellum.

Maybe because I just don‘t want to make a whole post which just says „Well I thought the first post is true but then I got convinced through the other which seems more logical“ which would be also BTW forbidden througha the posting guide lines?

I am

You can‘t react with these two things.

They’re just reactions, I wouldn’t read too much into them.

I think it‘s important to know if other people from PG generally agree or not agree with the written conclusion.

If you could change reactions anytime this would make this estimating if other PG guys agree even more precise.

I will now proceed to put this reaction.

People won’t know why I’m doing this, they will be confused, I will be evil-satisfied :smiling_face_with_horns: and this won’t lead anywhere constructive because I’m a social disruptor. Later on, I will consider updating my reaction but then, unable to do so, will spiral into deep sorrow and numbness. :face_with_bags_under_eyes:

EDIT: it’s just a reaction, don’t worry too much about people’s opinions and be brave enough to be down-voted by standing strong on your own principles.
Also, you can tear each other apart on a specific topic and be friends again on another. :+1:

There aren‘t much social disruptor in Privacy Guides (except you (haha just a joke :joy: )).

Reactions are mosty - in PG at least - constructive as they show the maker of the post the grade of agreement from other PG people. But if I can‘t change my reaction, it is impossible for the poster to see the current grade of agreement from other PG people.

I wanna see the world burn honestly. :fire::relieved_face::peace_symbol::dove:

Somebody said that

being an adult means that you’re fine being disagreed with

Moreover, I’m not sure it matters a lot besides some points for the leaderboard.
Which are again, just virtual points on the Internet to brush your ego and feel good about yourself. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Again, it is not important because of points (I don‘t even knew such a leaderboard existed :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:)

I am not feeling good when I gave someone a :+1: although I changed my mind and would‘ve given him a :-1:. Again, why aren‘t I allowed to change my mind?

It is also not like „spamming“ or something like that because you don‘t receive another notification if someone changes the reaction to a post.

I disabled the entire reactions notifications tbh, was too spammy and with small added value (I prefer signal over noise).

Yeah, and for all those like you who don‘t care about reactions, it‘s not worse if the ability to change the reaction would be there and for all those who care about them it‘s better.

So, pls just enable it (it can be done by root for all in the settings)!

You can actually fully disable the reactions if I’m not mistaken.

Sorry, I‘m not sure what you are trying to say with that information

Wait, there‘s also a messenger named „noise“ and not onlyone named „signal“? I did not know this :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes::wink:

Are the emojis appearing gray part of this change?

To be honest the reason this wasn’t done for a while was mainly because the setting was non-obviously named, but I’ve finally researched what it’s called. You should be able to edit reactions for up to a year now.

The limit can’t exactly be disabled, but I feel like if you’re going back over a year later to change a reaction to something you should probably be thinking about better ways to spend your time other than this forum

Also, I did make ‘em desaturated because I agree lol:

Dam how did @james1992 get 2rd place just by liking? :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

How do I mine this Reddit gold?

It’s kind of ugly now though.
