Alias Mail service for family

I am trying to find an alias service for my whole family to use custom domain. At the moment I have Proton Family subscription and they only support aliases with Proton Mail. I talked with SimpleLogin support and they told me that they don’t support custom domain sharing “for security purposes”. I also checked Addy.io and I couldn’t find anything related to sharing a custom domain with multiple people.

My scenario is, I have multiple custom domains and I want my family members to create alias emails on these domains.

It is not about the price for SL. I already have Proton Family and that grants every member SL Premium access. Issue is, SL is not sharing custom domains with family members because it doesn’t have the concept of family subscription.

Forward Mail seems nice, but if I want to switch to it, I need to switch my whole Proton Mail environment to it, which is not doable at the moment, considering I have like 14-15 months of subscription time left.

What I need is a proper alias service. I have like 6-7 domains and I want to enable them for my family members’ usage.

Only workaround is, I add their mailboxes to my SL, then create aliases manually whenever they require one.

You can do what I did with simple login. Add your domain to it, and create a set of new alias rules in the auto alias creator. You then add your family members as new mailboxes that can receive forwarded emails. Each family member was assigned a number or letter and would use (letter/number).alias (at) funny domain. For instance I created one for a store that was a.store@funny domain and it forwarded to me. A relative that has b as their prefix can make an alias for that store that’s b.store@funny domain and it forwards to them.

I see. Indeed, sharing domains with email hosting and alias is more difficult. But there is a solution. Here is what I personally use.

Did you think about sub-domains ?
You own 7 domains including example.com. for each person, you can allocate/register a sub-domain. Person1.example.com. Your final email is thus facebook@person1.example.com.

I did this to be able to use the same domains for my email and alias, kind of.
Email is me@yipii.com, alias is myalias@subdomain.yipii.com.

You can read the documentation here.

That makes sense, I will check the subdomain option. That should work for the time being I hope

Since its done at the dns level, you need to validate the domain and subdomain separately at tje two hosting provider or alias provider.
It would also allow you to have your mail at proton, and your alias and full email hosting at forward too or at any other email hosting provider

I havent usedforward email, but it seems like nice support. As a single user, simplelogin works for me. In your case, the directory feature and the auto-create rules feature should allow you to forward to specific mailbox.
Exemple johnfacebook@mycustom.com alias goes to john real email, and alicenewspaper@mycustom goes automatically to alice real email. There was a thread here in PG about this in the past.

Their doc seems to say there is no family plan, but they can give rebate if you contact them.

Though if you want to give everyone control to the app, there might be better solution that simple. Depends on your usage. I dont mind creating my alias before use, but I don’t think everybody in the family would be this involved…
