address change: do you give out your personal cell number

I moved. I plan on entering a “temporary” change of address as I understand they don’t sell your info using that method, until I contact all my vendors directly with my new address.

The form to temporarily change my address states: “A valid mobile phone number is now required to process your online Change-of-Address (COA) request. Your mobile phone number will be used to complete online Identity Proofing and Verification, in an effort to improve the security of the online COA process, and to identify and mitigate potential fraud. Online Identity Proofing may include a Phone Verification and One-Time Passcode solution and/or a Device Reputation Remote Identity Verification solution, as applicable.”

I prefer not to supply my cell number. I do have a google voice number that I can try to enter, but I am also concerned that if I don’t enter my cell number that I might miss some important call from them one day. Those in the know, any advice?

I’ve been using a Google voice number for everything that isn’t a personal contact for years. Only issue has been some services refuse to accept a VOIP number, but this is rare and becoming more rare as time goes on.

If they let you put your Google voice number in their system you should be good to go.

Yes I would. I have two voip numbers. One for family and one for public. Works out well so far.
I can think of one situation where I would add another number for temporary usage - posting a resume on Indeed or another public area.

As long as the public number you have isn’t tied to to your identity, all good!

That number is in my name. It was ported from my pervious cell service. Mostly, it’s used for official government, financial, and medical contacts.
