1Password increasing its pricing

Agreed, I’m not paying more for poor service.

I started testing Vaultwarden yesterday and it seems to be going well, though I’m not sure whether I should keep it on a proxmox server at home or put it on a vps with tailscale. Need to research some more and test. There’s always Bitwarden cloud too, which now has a family version for $48 a year. Considering I have my parents on 1P as well, that’s not a bad price.

Your parents are on 1P too? What do they think about the price hike.

I haven’t made a decision yet, on whether I will quit 1P, but I’m heavily leaning towards unsubscribing. I still have time on my subscription, but the issue is that I haven’t found a suitable home to migrate to. There’s a 99% chance, I will go with Proton Pass, but they are still missing some key features for me, and I want them to step their game up before my subscription expires.

Whatever happens, I don’t think it’s enough to just unsubscribed from 1Password. We need to riot. I know some people have already called them out publicly when the price hike was first announced, but it didn’t make a lot of waves. It didn’t compel them to reconsider. 1Password is a billion dollar company or close to it, and they haven’t done much to improve their service in years. Many of the bugs introduced in 1Password 8 have yet to be fixed. I don’t intend to go quietly.

They are on the family plan I paid for. Bitwarden seems to check the boxes that I need. They have a free tier if you want to give it a try. I have not tried Proton Pass myself. I should to see what the ease of use is for my parents.
