From a privacy perspective is it generally considered OK to use youtube and google maps within Mullvad + VPN?
I find the UX of youtube in Mullvad browser + VPN preferrable to using a frontend like Piped.

Me too. But have you considered Freetube? Like you I prefer youtube’s UX to piped or invidious instances. but I prefer the UX of Freetube (Desktop) and Newpipe (Android) to everything else, including youtube itself.

I’m not positive. What is your concern with these sites specifically? Or do you mean that you’d like to login to your Google account with these services with Mullvad Browser?
I had looked into Freetube, but chose not to use it to avoid downloading something that I could alternatively undertake via a private browsing session. Not against using it though.
No, I don’t want to login to either. Only want to use them for sporadic video viewing or map usage. That’s why using within Mullvad + VPN is serving me well from a UX perspective, just not sure from the privacy side. I’ve just got done degoogling my life, but these two products are very useful.
In that case, I can’t think of any reason why you couldn’t use gmaps and youtube from Mullvad Browser. Of course it’ll never be as perfectly verifiably private as just not connecting to Google services at all, but practically speaking it seems a reasonable tradeoff to me.
