Windows Defender

Hi, necessary disclaimer: please don’t tell me to switch to Linux.

For someone using Windows, I’ve always read Windows Defender was the best option security wise. I’m running privacy.sexy strict mode (with small changes) and always removed all the options related to removing Windows Defender capability.

So it came across my mind, is this still the best option, or is there another option which is as secure, but also more private then Windows Defender?

On PG, it is stated that:

Since modified versions of Windows like Windows AME don’t receive updates, security features and antivirus definitions in Windows Defender will fall behind the current threat landscape, opening you up to attacks, thus making you even less secure.

Which seems like a support for Windows Defender, but I’d like to have the community thoughts on this.

I am not familiar with anything more privacy respecting and offering similar security.
Generally by using windows defender you limit the amount of companies accessing sensitive data but also applications with very deep system integration.

Defender is probably the best option since you can configure it with policy settings, and you are using Microsoft’s OS anyway.

If you choose another AV, avoid Gen Digital’s (no practical reason, just saying it).
