IMO there should be a law that makes manufacturers release and distribute schematics of all hardware, documentation on how the software interacts with the hardware and allow to install/flash custom software. That way there’s no monopoly in hardware repairs or software/firmware of specific hardware.

For one thing, USA has a directly opposing law: DMCA Section 1201, which criminalizes breaking manufacturer locks. Essentially this gives manufacturers legal authority to broadly limit how their products are used.
at least jailbreaking and rooting is legal under the DMCA
