Why is Experience Level required?

This seems completely unnecessary.

EDIT: I also don’t understand the reason for unilaterally making this change and not letting the community decide.

It was suggested here

Well I shared why it may be good idea. Why do you think it is not?

The options are completely subjective. There is no reason to believe a user is an expert just because that’s how they feel about themselves.

Also, if you hide your profile nobody sees the information anyway.

This just adds an extra task to using the forum with no real value.

I suggested jonah to implement a vrchat like system of it instead of letting us manually choose in the name of preventing lying users (this is exactly why VRC also doesnt let you just choose “Trusted user”, instead it ranks based on your activity).

And I agree at least showing the experience level while users hide public profiles should be fixed, and then the system inspired by a social vr’s trust and safety system

I feel like it should just be optional. Kind of jarring to randomly be presented with this without any context as well.

If PG wants to highlight its expert “advanced” users. There should be a transparent evaluation for that and the “expertise” level should be handed down from staff instead of letting each user decide for themselves.

@Anvil exactly!

there is no expert or professional in this though and this is why I suggested a ranking from Getting started to veteran only (in vrchat terms this replicates it’s ranking which is from visitor to trusted user)

ok so that sounds like a totally different system then whats currently being forced on users.

Doesn’t this already basically exist via the badge system? Except less linear

yes and no, I still recommend you read the docs that I’m inspiring by for the suggestion here for your convenience. (Readers note: this is the inspiration im taking from not an actual system in the PG forum and even if it happens it will be similar not the same)

It is designed to keep users safe from nuisance users using things like screen-space shaders, loud sounds or microphones, visually noisy or malicious particle effects, and other methods that someone may use to detract from your experience in VRChat.

I am not sure why a system designed for things not related to this forum would be needed, let alone required.

I have made super clear that this is a system that they can take inspiration from not replicate 1 to 1, instead of this, the trust and safety like system would instead reflect the experience of the user for example, not this

The biggest problem users are bad faith devs who are not transparent about their COI. This system does nothing about that.

staff do not have to intervene if necessary and instead like the system it is being inspired from it is automatic. But in cases of false positive and stuff like that, they may have the ability to intervene, but it is possible that for existing users like me, the experience level can be determined by stats or points (and badges to determine say link poplularity) and new users can start their experience level as beginner or “Getting Started” then let the system gradually level them up based on the activity and of course like in thr system being inspired to there will be things that will make them not rank up, whenever I’d be determining based on if someone is spamming, negative reactions, flags count etc.

Would you rather users potentially lie about their experience level or have a Trust and Safety-like system that makes the determination, at this point it can’t be inbetween.

I have to preface that if you have some distrust with staff or mods or whatever it may be, I advise discussing privately with them, I’m personally confident they can do their best to resolve your problem

This seems irrelevant because none of the system you are talking about implementing is what’s happening. Currently its just an experience level dropdown with 3 subjective choices.

Can we both agree as things are now, there is no reason to force that on users?

This is why I suggested it and gave the documentation to be inspired from, we shall see what they do because I don’t think it’s an easy one over the showing experience level even if a user is hidden fix

With that said unfortunately with the potential influx of former Techlore users coming it might not be possible

But I’ll let @jonah weigh in on the opposition and supporting sides here and may make a formal decision, I still suggest to Jonah he implements the system I suggested, even if it has to be done later which is very understandable considering it’s not so simple

LMAO I thought my account got flagged for something when this popped up w/o warning

I admit, I picked a random answer, you aren’t getting anything out of me fedboy

Well here we go that’s the problem in it’s current form

I had a honest assessment on the issue, and I picked beginner.

Advanced or expert would be like seasoned developers, researchers, Investigative journalists.

So as a normal user, I must be a beginner.

p.s. didnt read the thread quoted above,
