Hi all!
Since a while I am more conscious of the privacy we have online. I already did a few steps to increase my online privacy.
Some of the things I did:
- Created two new mailboxes at a provider that is privacy focused
- Usage of aliases
- Changed browser
- Deleted a bunch of accounts
- YubiKey and Ente Auth
Now to the question, I will get a work phone and we can choose between Android and iOS. Both of them are managed. I have seen a YouTube video from Rob Braxman and he said that iPhone is really bad regarding privacy (in terms of tracking etc). Should I pick the Android phone?
I will not use a Google accout because all the apps are pushed to the phone. The phone will mainly be used for calling, mail and texting.
Thanks in advance!
First big mistake is watching his videos and listening to him. He is a charlatan and spreads misinformation and fear mongering. Please do not believe or trust this man as a source for anything. If you didn’t know this, now you do.
If both phones are managed, then iPhone is likely better or rather simpler if you ask me. You never know what kind of Android phone they’ll have for you and what you can do with it. Others may have differing views but if they explain Android will still be better, then its upto you to choose for the reasons for one over the other.
I would say keep it simple with iPhone. You’re not doing anything personal but only work stuff and for that, iOS is preferred by me.

If the android device was a pixel running graphene, definetely pick the ladder.
But otherwise I would accept iOS as apple provides great app privacy (assuming your threat model fits trusting apple which uh
but yeah). [actually @anon36940904 put it more politely]

@basenote Good to know! And thanks for the quick reply. Are there besides Privacy Guides any good sources (prefarbly on YouTube)?
Based on the opinions in this topic I will go for the iPhone.

Great privacy resources:
- Techlore (videos and the techlore forum like this that PG has)
- The New Oil (articles and videos)
- Naomi Brockwell (videos)
- Firewalls Don’t Stop Dragons (podcasts and articles)
Also, sorry for being pedantic but it’s just called “iPhone” and not “the iPhone”. (again, sorry)
@anon36940904 thanks again!
English isn’t my native language. I will remind it for future purposes

No problem. I understand.
Also, it is “I will remember” not “remind”. If you don’t mind another correction for you to learn.
