Then they should probably get an iPhone?
Bruh, I just have like 3 games, some photos and my music collection (flacs) and my storage is almost full, if you have local lossless music or play big games 128 gigs is barely enough.
Yeah, downloading my Apple Music Library in High Quality is in excess of 75Gb at this point, let alone Lossless or Hi-Res Lossless. Thatâs what happens when you have a library with thousands of songs. I donât think they realize the size of files when you make everything local on one device.
That only really makes sense if your phone is your only device and you canât just load up your phone with a bunch of albums before you go somewhere, which, granted, is a usecase
they hated him because he spoke the truth ![]()
Everyone definitely needs to have thousands of songs locally on their phone, itâs a must! Also, the audio gear that most folks use isnât even good enough to hear a difference between Spotify, YouTube Music, and high-quality FLACs.
No one said âeveryoneâ. Continue to strawman.
@Rasta @NexusInstance LOL at least some understand
This is a genuinely good point. Are you really using audio gear that allows you to hear the difference? And if so, you are undoubtedly carrying around a DAC, so you might as well carry around a USB drive or portable SSD as well.
Whatâs the use case of having thousands of songs locally?
Even if one song was only 2 minutes long, it would take over 33 hours of nonstop listening without any skipping or forwarding to listen to 1000 songs.
Apple dongles are ideal, but of course there are exception headphones that couldnât be driven by Apple dongles.
Yes, thatâs my point. Some people are going to prefer an iPhone over a Google Pixel. Whatever reason that may be should only be rational to themselves. Otherwise, we would tell them to return their iPhone, get a Google Pixel and install GrapheneOS. Or we tell them to stick to iOS and maybe look for alternative apps to Appleâs proprietaries.
To have thousands of songs to choose from. And yes, I do carry a DAC.
Wait, Iâm confused, no one said that iOS isnât a good recommendation though? It is often consider secondary to GrapheneOS in the forum
I agree. I said Iâm not sure how important GrapheneOS is when it comes to privacy because people will use their preferred OS. Apparently, thatâs an incorrect opinion.
Most people prefer GrapheneOS because they prioritize security, privacy, and freedom. GrapheneOS is also bloat-free.
Google Pixel phones are actually pretty good, which also makes the choice of GrapheneOS a lot easier.
There are different needs and different use cases of a phone, it is really dumb to criticizing a personal need.
Lately there are plenty of posts like âI need to use Windows > Use linux stupidâ or âI have a samsung phone > get rid of it and take a pixelâ, please do better.
If someone needs a lot of storage because videos, photos, music, whatever that is a valid use case and arguing it is not rather than trying to help improve safety/privacy within that need is useless.
Not everyone can be like you and those are low effort answers.
Maybe my non-native english-ness (?) is showing here but it seems like the conversation just keeps jumping around from operating system to SD card and it just makes it so hard to follow ![]()
But yeah I see your point
EDIT: This is also where Iâm still sad that Divest died, while Iâm very happy with my Graphene Pixel now (I still hate the design, seriously Google). My secondary devices had to be moved to Lineage instead of Divest (which was better at harm reduction) and that kinda sucks ![]()
I disagree that the forum really recommends Linux in that way. Obviously, Windows is far from ideal in a lot of ways, but it also has a lot of advantages, not least the fact that itâs the most prominent desktop OS, and developers often make software exclusively for Windows. People here are pretty enlightened as to the significant drawbacks of Linux, especially as far as security and consequentially privacy from apps goes.
I agree that we shouldnât prevent ourselves from providing helpful answers and solutions simply because they are not the recommended solution, since as you say not every solution works for everyone. That being said, part of the problem is just how low the bar is for other devices. They are chronically insecure and criminally privacy-invasive, and there really is no reason that everyone shouldnât be using GrapheneOS. Yes, itâs a privacy and security-focused OS, but it also prioritises usability. You could make a substantially more secure OS, but an OS with no ability to connect to the internet, render images, run third-party software, etc., wouldnât be very useful.
What do you not like about it? I have an 8 Pro and honestly itâs pretty great (besides being stupidly big). I do wish I had a 9 Pro though because, at least in my opinion, Google has really nailed the refined and premium look in the 9 series.
Unfortunately, I canât quite say importing Pixels are exactly cheap (I can attest to that, omg I hate living in a third world country)⌠I think there are still some reasons why people may not be able to use it.
Uhhh I donât like how the power buttons are placed above the volume, it just feels weird. The worst part of the design is the camera. The Pixels 6 looks like ready player one goggles and the Pixel 9 look like Among Us and the 7 and 8 looks like Among Us with glasses ![]()
EDIT: It is premiumly built the I think how they designed the screen is gorgeous. I just donât like the back
Yeah, I recognise that, which is part of why DivestOS was such a great project to recommend here, even if I never had a reason to use it personally. Hopefully, someone will pick up the mantle, although they are certainly very large shoes to fill.
