As many of you have now heard, we’re beyond thrilled to welcome Nate Bartram to the Privacy Guides team!
As we discussed on the latest episode of This Week in Privacy, we have so many plans for advancing privacy and making this community even more fantastic going in to 2026, and affording Nate the opportunity to commit to privacy advocacy full-time with us is really a dream come true ![]()
Nate’s Role at Privacy Guides
Today we shared a lot of details in Episode 28 of the livestream, but here’s an overview of Nate’s main tasks going forward:
-
Being the primary person on camera for our upcoming videos that will have an on-camera host. The biggest benefit of these videos will be quicker production times, which will help us release new content much more regularly.
-
Regularly making YT Shorts and TikToks, and answering questions from newcomers and from our audience in them.
-
Co-hosting This Week in Privacy on a regular basis.
-
Contributing to sharing all the latest news in privacy & security by posting to Privacy & Security News beginning next week, and re-sharing some of those stories in short video format.
In short, Nate is going to bring a lot of consistency and effort to Privacy Guides, pretty much across the board ![]()
The biggest project Nate has already been working on behind the scenes is a full video course on smartphone security basics. We have many more plans coming soon!
Supporting Nate & Privacy Guides
If you want to support Nate’s position here, and all of the work we do at Privacy Guides, the best way to do so is to become a Privacy Guides member.
None of this is possible without your support, and we have so many exciting plans going in to next year that we can’t wait to share with you all!
Existing members should check out the private Members forum for information on how to help us prioritize new topics to work on and share ideas for what supporters would like to see from our membership program.
Regarding Surveillance Report
We were saddened to hear that Nate would be stepping down from his 4+ year role as co-host of Surveillance Report as he began working with us, and that the show’s YouTube channel and Patreon community would be winding down. Many of us here on the team and in our community are huge fans of Surveillance Report, and what The New Oil and Techlore have done to share privacy & security news with their audience over the years is nothing short of remarkable.
These changes to Surveillance Report were never a part of our plan when we decided to move forward with hiring Nate. Of course, This Week in Privacy is a hugely different show which can’t replace it, and we have no qualms with our employees working on personal/side projects, because any privacy advocacy is sorely needed in today’s society. We would’ve bent over backwards to make sure none of his existing work was impacted by him joining our team if that were his wish, but we understand the decision for Nate to part ways with the Surveillance Report show.
We wish Henry at Techlore all the best going forward with his show on his YouTube channel, and we hope that any fans of Nate feel welcome here at Privacy Guides and will follow his upcoming work here on our channel, and via his own personal ventures as well:
