TLDR , iphone users need to turn off travel mode in their settings specially if they have visa card connected in their phones.
I don’t think apple is really at fault here , as visa could simply use the method that mastercard uses to prevents this theft
I just finished watching this video a minute ago. I knew this would be Express Transit related but the interplay between that and Visa is interesting.
I’d have to agree with Apple this is primarily a Visa issue, but Visa’s point that this is not worth fixing is probably accurate too. The issue with Visa’s stance though is that while they’ll allegedly refund you if this happens, I feel like the process to prove this happened to get that refund might be incredibly annoying. If MasterCard can figure it out, surely Visa could
Can anyone confirm whether Express Transit mode was enabled by default with a credit card on their device? It wasn’t enabled with a credit card on mine because it was instead enabled with a Japanese Suica transit card I have, and it wasn’t enabled for someone else I asked either.
The video says it’s enabled by default for compatible cards, but I don’t think that’s actually true. I think it is enabled by default for compatible transit cards like a Suica/Passmo card, but never enabled by default for compatible payment cards like a Visa/MasterCard.
If someone unknowingly has a banking card enabled in Express Transit mode settings though, let me know.
