Virtual Machine Security Question

I’m trying to create a Windows virtual machine, but I want to know: if a hacker manages to put a virus in that virtual machine, will the hacker be able to see the passwords I used in that VM? I’m planning to use the same passwords I use on my main PC, but maybe that’s bad.

I’m also thinking that if I use different passwords, I can create a save state. This way, even if I turn off the PC, I won’t have to log in again because I will already be logged in within the save state, right?

Thank you.

No shit! Please use different passwords.

If a “virus” is on that VM, you delete that VM and create another one. The point for most VMs/VM use is for temporary purposes so I would not recommend you doing anything big that requires you to want to keep that VM with all its data active/stored. But I wouldn’t worry about it - unless you’re not using any security measures on that Windows and go to shady sites and download and click on questionable things - you should be fine.

You know the best way to find out? Trying it yourself. Run an experiment and see what works and what doesn’t for your use case and purpose for which you want this kinda set up.

Also, a good protocol to follow before asking questions is at-least doing some research and trying things out for yourself. This is a forum to get answers to solutions you cannot crack yourself - not a search engine. Just saying.

I searched on search engines, but I didn’t understand some concepts. Sorry if I was misunderstood.

Ah! Then you’re okay. Please make that clear next time because anyone can assume anything about a question/post.

But I hope my response answered your question. I don’t have a lot of experience with VMs but what I normally is do if I have a question about something like this - is to try it out myself and see how and what works. This way, my question/post can have the specificity for a more unambiguous question that can lead to an equally unambiguous answer from those who know.

@Ultimate2964 You can keep your password manager in the host and autotype the passwords that you need in the guest rather than copy and paste. Should be better security than shared copy/paste.

How about allowing copy-paste and even dragging .exe files and so on (I did it in my VM)? Obviously, you don’t use that VM as a test, but to do other stuff, to just wanting another ‘PC’ in this case, virtual.
