Does anyone here use Night Light on GrapheneOS or Linux? What’s your experience with it? Also, how do you like Vertical Tabs—what advantages or disadvantages do you see compared to horizontal tabs?
Personally, I’ve completely fallen for vertical tabs on PC. I can’t even imagine going back to how things were before anymore.
What appeals to you about vertical tabs? I’m currently testing them myself - I’ve always used horizontal tabs before. I really like being able to see each tab’s title with everything in one place. It feels like I’ve become more productive when working in my browser this way. But since I haven’t used vertical tabs much yet, it’s hard to say which is better for me at this point - though I’m really enjoying this experience and might stick with them.
Especially when working with lots of tabs, it’s so much more convenient than horizontal ones.
Vertical tabs are often more efficient in regards to taking up screen space, and on some browsers you can turn on a setting to expand all tabs so you can see their titles.
When the tabs are expanded, although they take up more of the screen, you can see more of the expanded tabs than you would with horizontal tabs.
In some browsers you can also check the tab’s titles in a flyout card when you hover them with the cursor, which I think it’s a better way to handle them.
Firefox recently added Vertical Tabs, and I am thrilled.
Too many modern Web sites have a single narrow column of text down the center of the window with the remainder wasted as empty white space.
Vertical Tabs expanded to include the page title makes good use of a wide screen monitor.
I’ve been using Night Light on both Linux and GrapheneOS for a while now. On Linux (GNOME), it’s smooth and does its job — the warmer tones are easier on my eyes at night, especially during longer work sessions. On GrapheneOS, I find it equally solid. It kicks in based on my set schedule and definitely helps reduce eye strain. It’s one of those subtle features you miss when it’s not there.
As for vertical tabs — I switched about six months ago and haven’t looked back. It just makes so much more sense when you’re juggling a ton of tabs. Seeing full titles without having to hover or guess what’s where is a big productivity boost for me. Especially on a widescreen monitor, it uses the space way better than the cramped horizontal layout ever did. It took a bit to get used to, but now it’s just the default in my brain.
I really love vertical tabs I like keep everything compact its easy for me to navigate to where I want. I really like the way where in some browsers their vertical tabs are able to be kept intact completely closed, but I’m still able access the tabs within the group without fully opening the group. That is *chef’s kiss to me, but I don’t use those browsers daily.
