The US Senate is once again considering the Kids Online Safety Act, which is similar to the UK Online Safety Act. Long story short - it does a lot of the bad stuff that the UK law does in require age verification to ‘protect children from harmful content.’ The obvious concern is that this can be used to censor content, determine who gets access to platforms for free speech, and can tie more of their online lives to their real identity (which can be acted on by bad actors in the future).
If you don’t want this bill to pass, call your US senators and tell them to oppose this bill: Oppose S. 1748 The Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) ⭑ 5 Calls
Seriously, it takes less than five minutes and there’s a good chance you’re just going to go to voicemail, but in doing so the senators’ offices have to log that you called and expressed NO on this bill. Calling your reps makes a difference!
