I bought a Samsung SSD and their website says : “Set your password and get the latest firmware updates6 with Samsung portable SSD software7 available in PCs, Macs, Android smartphones and tablets. You can also check your drive’s health, boost performance and protect data with Samsung Magician Software.” “6. Firmware update requires use of PC or Mac and access to internet connection. Android app available on Google Play. Samsung Magician Software only available in Windows.”
And do you know how many years SSD usually receive updates ?..
No. Never use the manufacturers own software update or maintenance tools for your SSDs. It is best to always reformat them once you plug it in for the first time and then encrypt it via Cryptomator if you are storing sensitive info on it.
If you are using it for a media player with only content on it, I would still recommend to reformat it the first time you plug it in so it does away with any OEM software crapt it may come with that you may be eligible for.
SSDs don’t require software updates.

It all depends on the specific products, you can take the previous products within the same line as a reference.
utility update might be rather frequent, Samsung Magician Software in this case. Firmware update should be quite rare.
I don’t use the bundled software from the manufacturers, to encrypt I use veracrypt travel disk feature, to check health I use CrystalDiskInfo.
I no longer use external drives these days so most of my “knowledge” might already out of date, please take it with a huge pitch of salt.
Yes they do and they are highly beneficial such as fixing corruption issues or improving performance.
Quick skim however seems that Samsung doesn’t provide firmware updates for external drives. It may still be worth booting a live system and running magician anyway to confirm.

I use firmware updates via fwupdmgr CLI. It is supposed to pull from official sources.
