Turkey has banned Discord

“Since Discord refuses to share its own information, including IP addresses and content, with our security units, we were forced to block access.”

They merely refused to share it, right? If they want they could since Discord does not offer end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for its messages only for video and calls, if I’m not mistaken.

I mean, they will probably collaborate with the government demand to get their user basis growing.

Yes, they simply haven’t cooperated with the government. They should have provided all the requested information. This is coming from a Turkish citizen who prioritises privacy and freedom.

Regarding the discussion:

Recently, two girls aged 19 were brutally murdered in Istanbul by a man of the same age. Some people on Discord started talking about these murders, saying that they would kill babies in a few days (this was said on Telegram, but it’s the same people). They also shared videos of animal abuse. They’re considered terrorists not because they’re actually related to any terrorist organisation, but because they literally doxx underage girls and anyone else. This is considered terrorism in Turkey. After doxxing them, they demand that they send nudes or they will send the police to their house. This is possible because of a massive citizenship data leak, whereby anyone with access to the ‘panels’ (the GUI) can obtain personal information such as home addresses, TC numbers, phone numbers and information about relatives by just searching their names and surnames. Once underage girls have sent nudes, the perpetrators take it to the next level by asking the girls to harm themselves while they record it and share it in their groups. This went on for 3–4 years, but it became widely known after they mocked the murder of two girls and threatened to kill more women, babies and animals.

Note: There’s more to it, but I don’t want to list everything these guys have been doing over the last few years.

Do we have any proof the ban is actually related to those crimes?
