The FAQ section of telegram has been misleading and a lie from long time . The word “encrypted chats” was used smartly to make users think their chats are private but its actually just transport layer encryption and the telegram servers had everything in plaintext.
Though i condemn Durovs’ arrest , i don’t feel he was being honest about what data telegram had been earlier sharing with law enforcements while claiming telegram to be private.
Telegram had been earlier banned in multiple countries (like russia, iraq) on account of not sharing data and were only unbanned when an “agreement” was signed with the goverments and were satisfied with the information received.
Maybe the FAQs do not have any legal binding , which allowed them get away with any lies and misleading material to fool users.
(the current events may have made things very obvious to public at large which made them remove that part)
Naomi brockwell had made a video explaining about telegrams false marketing and data sharing.
