The new Pebble app is live on iOS and Android

The original developer of Pebble have released a new version of the Pebble app last month. After checking it out from yesterday’s blog post, I discovered that the permissions are not invasive whatsoever with very limited data collection. Still closed source though.

The developer also endorsed Gadgetbridge as a good alternative to his own app if needed :innocent:

We open sourced the library that powers this app (libpebble3), which is already being used in open source apps like MicroPebble. GadgetBridge is another good open source Pebble-compatible app and supports all Pebble watches.

Good timing because a new blog post dropped yesterday: https://ericmigi.com/ (creator of Pebble)

Wait how did I forget he’s the one behind beeper
Isn’t beeper now owned by the Wordpress company?
Edit: Automattic and it is

Excited to see how the new app compares to Gadgetbridge! Yet another review in the backlog to write

EDIT: No invasive perms according to the Play Store page. Its open source counterparts, Gadgetbridge and Micropebble, have overall less data collection

In case you need some feedback from a Pebble Time 2 user, you can reach out to me early 2026 (current ETA I guess). :hugs:

Certainly a good thing, even if closed source. At least the library that powers it is open source!

Only the default mobile app from Core is closed source but it’s not a big deal because the rest is open (with alternative) so very much fine.
