Gadgetbridge compatible Smartwatch with good sleep and health tracking?

Hello,

I am looking quite a while for a smartwatch that is compatible with Gadgetbridge and also has good sleep and health tracking from which the data gets correctly transfered to Gadgetbridge.
Can someone recommend me something please?

question how much of a tinkerer are you from none to “I am a tinkerer”

You may want to look at Amazfit as most watches on that page are highly supported,

there’s (mostly) 2 catches which is why is best we wait for OP to answer first.

I pre-ordered a Pebble Watch.
I do love the fact that it can last an entire month, have the bare minimum, relaxing E-ink screen and is embraced by an apparently lovely community passionate about FOSS.

Also fully compatible with Gadgetbridge from day one. :star_struck:
The CEO also looks kind and apparently cares about real things (no AI salesman or whatever).
It might flop. Will not be as refined as an Apple Watch Ultra but hey, I do value some points over others more. Would be a perfect match for GOS and some basic healthy metrics IMO. :+1:t2:

PS: you can hack the hell out of it and have something playful and fun.
Gosh that one is a thing most company are loosing nowadays.

Besides that, Garmin maybe? Their support on Gadgetbridge looks subpar and their software as a whole is not the best from what I saw. But, it’s some kind of well known brand if you also need to have something a bit more rugged. :hugs:

PS2: Pine or Bangle also look like decent solutions.

I mean the CEO actually was the one who founded Pebble before it went on a rollercoaster then somehow just came back like as if somehow the sunk titanic was revived.

The question remains as Gadgetbridge isnt necessarily one click ready to go on all watches

I’m currently considering buying the Amazfit Helio band. It’s sleep and fitness tracking is top tier. It uses Zepp OS, which should have good compatibility with Gadgetbridge. If not, I will just use Zepp app without network permission.

I kind of like the idea of wearing a band on your biceps, because this allows you to wear a classic watch on your wrist, while also tracking your stats. But if that is not your cup of tea, I’m sure Amazfit has some great watches to offer. My current one is an Amazfit Bip, I have been using it for 6 years and it has amazing compatibility with the open-source Gadgetbridge app.

I think that thanks to the community it might not be that hard to flash even if you’re not super tech savvy. Seeing how easy it is to flash GOS on a Pixel, I think that a single YT video with a QR code in the box is all you might need for a working Pebble.

Also, privacy will always have more friction that your go-to proprietary device.

But yes, also depends if you want:

  • just bare metrics of heart rate, sleep tracking etc
  • a smartwatch that does a bit more

I heard that Garmin watches work good with gadgetbridge but I am not sure right now

I’ve tried MagicWatch 2 and CMF Pro 2 and they’re both accurate for tracking sleep. I use them to track my steps too, don’t really care for anything else.

Garmin has data sync issues according to some people

I use Garmin instinct 3 with Gadgetbridge nightly build, without issue. I’ve never had any sync issues and it always reconnects to my pixel 7a with GrapheneOS.

I will say that I never installed or connected it to the official Garmin app, I connected and used it entirely through Gadgetbridge.

I think I am not so much of a tinkerer.
What type of tinkering would be required?

Do they have good health and sleep tracking?

You see when you visit the Gadgetbridge documentation website on the wearables

The :locked: icon indicates you requiring to use the OEM app, likely also needing to sign in (especially common with Zepp OS and Xiaomi)

The :unlocked: icon means you can use the watch with gadgetbridge without needing the OEM App.

It’s up to you if you wanna go this route. It is recommended to use an alias and if possible, a VPN or otherwise a DNS with Content filtering during this process

I can’t confirm myself, but they are usually listed on the website as the most supported brand besides pebble, which has an open–source OS and will soon release two new models with anticipated day 1 support.

3 posts were merged into an existing topic: The new Pebble app is live on iOS and Android

Does the lock mean that I need the app on time or all the time?

I have an Amazfit but I don’t want to root my phone at the moment, so unfortunately I couldn’t use it with GadgetBridge.

I checked the site recently and it seemed not possible to get a token for an Amazfit smartwatch on non-rooted phones. Here’s what it says on the site:

Currently not working

Huami has changed the API, and the huafetcher and huami-token projects are not working. See more information in huami-token#118.

So if anyone isn’t willing to root their phones, you should be aware that Amazfit is currently not a good option.

Slightly off topic

I’m struggling to find a wearable with blood pressure measuring, any advice or we are not there yet?

I think that for an accurate (and somewhat useful) result, you really need to have the ones that just squeeze your wrist while you’re static.
Not a wearable-friendly think to create unfortunately.

Some of them can be done solo and it’s not super expensive but it’s still not your usual Apple watch or Oura ring.
