The home mobile is about to reach end-of-life

I’ve got a Xiaomi 11T Pro with almost all bloat removed. VPN is on all the time and I use very strict DNS settings. I only keep it at home as a banking phone.

Should I go and buy a new one now, or can I keep using this since I don’t use it for anything else?

And only my WiFi.

I don’t know what a banking phone is (or at-least what you mean by it) but it is generally advised to only use devices that are currently/actively supported.

If you can afford another device, you should get a new one. If not, I guess how you’re using it is the best way to go about so keep it simple going forward too.

Yes, I suppose so. Since it’s your secondary phone and you don’t use it every day, it should be fine to keep it for at least a few years, unless some critical security issues are found in Android 15.

We don’t use key code lists here anymore; instead, all confirmations are done with the mobile app.

I’m still not sure what you mean but okay.

GOS won’t operate with my bank app, and I see this as the lesser evil compared to lowering security settings so it would work.

Did you try it in another profile with play services installed and enabled?

I think you can keep it, as long as you keep it for banking ONLY, won’t surf the web, download new apps and games, etc.

Just have to make sure the bank’s app gets updated as needed.

Yes, I think I tried it, but it’s been a while. I need to try it again.

In the end, I decided it wasn’t the right place to cut costs. So I bought a new phone. Thank goodness adb exists.

Which one did you end up buying?

I got a good deal on a Xiaomi 15T because my previous phone was an 11T Pro, so I already knew its features very well. I traded in my old phone and paid 300€, which I believe was a good arrangement for me. The new phone is more powerful than I need, but at least I do not have to worry about this matter anymore. I did a clean setup using ADB, so I did not have to learn anything new. Now I will receive updates for years to come.

Sorry, I don’t know what ADB is?

edit. I personally use Universal debloater+powershell, but the other result appeared first when I searched.

ADB is like the God Mode of Android

You can run various commands you normally cant On an Android device, that’s what most debloater apps use for example, you can set density and more, see the link yeah

I see. I did not know. So I am reading.

Does this mean you can debloat and make a non Pixel Android phone as private and secure as possible?

Yes you can if done with caution obviously

I recommend both as they maintain a list of recommended, caution and non-recommended lists of apps you can uninstall (Canta uses the list based off the UAD List so I would say either way it should be similar!) and

NB : System apps cannot truly be uninstalled without root

Last one (Canta) is mostly meant for those lacking in any shape or form of a computer to use ADB

Personally, I could not live without that Universal. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
