“This app is discontinued. The last release on Github and F-Droid will happen with the December 2024 Syncthing version.”
I’ve been using Syncthing-Fork for a while. Works great.
I used to use a USB-C thumb drive or cloud storage to copy files across devices. I’ll go back to that if all else fails.
The ReadMe file there reads that the developer is looking to close their Play Account, so unless someone takes it over, this is gonna be dead soon.
Wow, this is bad news. Though I hope fork will be maintained
But to be honest, I don’t see much need for improvement of Syncthing, it does the job well (yes, it could have sharing, sub-folder sync, etc.). So as long as it is working as it is, will be a good option
That blows. Thanks to you and @pinkman for the heads up.
There is regular maintenance work, such as keeping libraries and APIs (especially between Android versions) up to date.
Another developer, jwz, blogged about their struggles to deal with increasing Google Play overhead/process. His Google Play account recently vaporized and apps orphaned.
This syncthing android situation is a bummer, as I’m making great use of Syncthing on Android to keep some file shares synced up.
I just tried to look it up in the Android Play Store. It’s not there. Not sure when it fell out, but it’s currently not officially available for Android.
This is so unfortunate… I hope that someone will fork it.
The google play link on our website is already broken it seems
The link has been non-functional for a few months now, because Google no longer allowed to publish the app with the “all files access” permission (which was required by Syncthing to sync files located on SD cards). This is the same reason why Syncthing Fork isn’t available in the Play Store anymore.
However, the Fork is still in development and can be downloaded from both GitHub or F-Droid.
