Stalwart for self-hosted email

Any opinions on Stalwart? Tons of features, Rust, encryption at rest.

JMAP? Rust? :eyes:

Haven’t heard of this, but this is going to the top of my to-do list to install and review I think…

I’m surprised this functionality isn’t available, this is extremely limiting compared to other email server software:

Edit: oh, it does support multiple domains, just not things like per-domain admins. That’s not so bad for personal use then. FAQ | Stalwart Labs

We are now using Stalwart at Privacy Guides and it is working smoothly and has very sane defaults (security and otherwise).

I am going to mark this as approved because nobody has chimed in with a reason not to (last chance everyone!), and I find it quite a bit nicer than Mailcow.

Unfortunately there are essentially no good JMAP clients afaik. I know Fastmail uses JMAP with their own client but that’s limited to using their service.

Yeah that has also been my conclusion.

Would it be possible to use Stalwart’s web interface as an email client?

full disclosure I am an engineer for lavabit, and although we have our encrypted server freely available on github, its not optimized for easy installation yet.

I am going to be trying out Stalwart today. I have, in the past, recommended Mail in a box for self hosted email but only for personal use. Not sure id feel comfortable relying on MIAB for a large deployment.

There is also another email server called Mox ive been wanting to try. and then of course theres TREES - the encryption addon to dovecot create by LEAP… or maybe Riseup i can’t remember. Going to be trying that out too.

I didn’t really know this was still active :eyes:

Mox was the other one I was tempted to try out for our own purposes, but I ended up liking Stalwart enough that I didn’t end up installing it. I still probably should though to see if it’s worth sharing with others.

No, it is only for administration. I’ve been looking into webmail clients to use alongside Stalwart and I think https://snappymail.eu/ might be the best I’ve found so far, but I haven’t actually installed it yet.

there is aerc which is what i use.

I read some of the replies in that thread Mox – modern, secure, all-in-one email server | Hacker News Looked interesting.
