I have never owned an iPhone, though I have owned iPads. I don’t recall ever connecting my mobile number to Apple. Yet somehow, I have text messages in the iOS Messages app. Recently I found text messages that would have been sent as SMS to my mobile number appearing in the Messages app on my iPad - texts that I never received as SMS at all. They were effectively redirected in other words. What do I need to do stop this from happening?
I’ve read your post twice and interpreted it differently both times, so I think some clarifications may be useful.
Are you saying that:
- You’ve never owned an iPhone nor connected an apple/icloud account to your mobile number?
- But you are receiving what you believe are SMS messages that should be going to your Android Phone, on your iPad’s iMessage app?
- And not receiving those messages on your Android phone?
If the issue is what I think it is and you’re receiving iMessages on your iPad instead of SMS messages to your Android phone, this should help:
If this doesn’t fix it, another thing that might be happening is someone trying to send you messages might have both your phone number and your Apple ID email in your contact, and are inadvertently sending messages to your email, which would result in them being sent as iMessages.
Thank you - I think this is the likely explanation. Turned off Messages (and Facetime) now.
