Should i use my main email or a dedicated one for Bitwarden?

When signing up for bitwarden, i need to provide an email address. I will the master password down alongside the login info for whichever email I use. My question is: should I create a dedicated email just for Bitwarden, or is it ok to just use my main mail?

From a strict privacy perspective it’s usually recommended to use email aliases, but using your “real” email will be much better for remembering your login info which is essential in case your devices are damaged or lost. For that reason I think most people should probably use their “real” email specifically for their password manager, an email alias is better for almost every other service.

Typically, it’s advised that the email address you use is an account you regularly check. This is because Bitwarden will send you emails about logins from “new” clients, which might alert you to suspicious logins. You one-of account might not work as well.

Also, because of the reason above, it’s recommended that you use a reliable email service. That’s why people often recommend using a plus address, like bob+bw46489@gmail.com (for uniqueness; no credential stuffing attempts possible). However, if you think your email alias service is reliable, then using an alias does have some appeal for anonymity, especially if you use the free account.

As for remembering your login credentials (email, password, 2FA codes), one of the mantras you’ll find in the Bitwarden forum is that you can’t rely on your memory—so you should write them down on papers and keep them somewhere safe and accessible.
