Should i just ditch cyberghost and switch elsewhere

A bit of background context is that I brought a lifetime subscription to ZenMate back in 2016 as they were very good, recommended in the IT magazines I read, and the free plan worked fine plus it came as a browser add-on and did not need any additional protection except in the web browser.

Fast-forward all the way to now and find that I can’t log in despite correct login info and I do know that the lifetime subscription brought on StackSocial expires next year (if it actually does i don’t know). ZenMate are now part of cyberghost and yes i am aware they are part of kape technologies.

However, I have been asked to create a new account and then afterwards cyberghost will move the subscription to the new account.

Am I better off cutting my loses as I only paid 50 and asking to ensure my account is deleted and then using a vpn that is recommended, or sign up to cyberghost and then see what happens next then delete if the lifetime subscription really does expire?

Yeah, Kape will have the ability to see all your activity if you keep using it. Nym and Obscura are newer options that aren’t recommended on the site, but they’re held with pretty high regard in this community

So are you saying to cut loses, delete account and go elsewhere? I do have a seed box which does have WireGuard support. So, at least on a less trustworthy wifi network, i can do a bit more to protect myself.

What is the reason for them not being recommended here? Is it just because they are new and need to build a reputation?

I do wonder if to have a look a say windscribe which is suggested on techlore Privacy & Security Resources | Techlore Recommendations

If you’re worried about expenses, ProtonVPN is free and is a recommended tool

Pretty much

That’s a better option compared to most other solutions, but their marketing could use some work
