Second privacy related of my blog post: Why and when to comply DMing to a more Private Platform when asked (and when not to)

The story behind it is as quoted:

I am keeping the identities of some people from my experience anonymous for safety reasons, with the exception of 2 people. Those that may read it may understand who they are:

After my previous interaction with a person who is against switching platforms (until it affects them) and another who called me sketchy over the idea of not accepting Discord DMs but other means of private communication and then told by another that the act of asking someone to use another platform was “sus”. I said Enough is Enough, and decided to write this post to hopefully help those struggling to convince friends to switch, but also to narrow down the criteria for when you should and shouldn’t accept for the recipient, because here’s the thing: In their/your defense, there are valid reasons for someone to be skeptical, even if in my case they weren’t that valid, and even if it feels valid and condone the behavior of not accepting them, you’re not helping the person who wants to protect their privacy (and don’t give me the usual bullcrap about privacy, you’re only making it worse). Take the time to read why it matters here and also here, which the second one should speak more to your language. And if it does not matter to you and/or you aren’t bothering to do so, then it matters to them, no matter what the argument is (Yes I’m talking to you recipient).

It does go on so click the link to read more. However while this is targeted at my group it could perhaps help others hopefully! The feedback for improvements that have been talked about to improve readability from my first one were already here but if you need more it is welcome to make it as accessible as possible!

Edit 1: addressed background per feedback to a more darker one based on the minimum passed ratio on the WCAG 2.1 AAA Level. Awaiting text/line criticism and if to address so or not…

Nice, but:

Platforms chosen

Add XMPP.

Also, your blog is imo still hard to read. Maybe use a more traditional colorscheme, like catppuccin, dracula, onedark or nord?

Hi there thanks for feedback.

As said the color choices are inspired by my OC, found in Gorujo's Blog
Would it be ok if I Darken the background a little more or is the font the issue for you or is my color choices simply unappealing?
Thanks.

I think the main issue is the yellow text, but yes the gray is also a little too light imo.

I see. Unfortunately I can’t help with the text as I don’t want to ruin my inspiration but if you would like me to I can comply with the gray. Also considering the fact that you said imo it does mean that you don’t seem to mind it? However if it’s still that annoying your browser may have the reading mode you can utilize. I understand if this sounds contradicting and all but it’s just like you know, you can;t have one size fits all. Some like it, some don’t pretty much…
Or maybe there is something else bothering you not necessarily the color text???
If not for those then do you like it overall?

I think people are just trying to be respectful. Personally I can point out a couple of things:
I think people are just trying to be respectful. Personally, I can point out a couple of things:

  • The specific grey you used is too bright, which makes the site look washed out. Try using a darker grey. Even something like #292929 looks significantly better, though personally, I would go as dark as #1c1c1c. (The combination I linked looks quite good for titles but large blocks of text in colours other than black or white is rarely as legible.)

  • The mix of orange and yellow is not pleasant at all. They are far too similar in colour, and the way they are used in close proximity to each other is quite distracting.

  • The red line is also distracting and contrasts poorly with the other colours.

  • Excessive stylisation (i.e. bold, italics) also hurts the legibility.

I personally find that asking a stranger on the internet to move to a different, more private messaging platform, is very difficult. More often than not, if they are on other platforms, they are not private (eg: Telegram).

Personally, my-go to is often email. Or you can share links to secrets notes instead, but it’s likely that unless they are privacy conscious, this will annoy them. And even if they are, they may not want to.

That’s why my first go-to is email. There are forums that I belong to, that have shut down private messaging, which really bothers me, because it prevents members from speaking to each other privately, and forces them to have private conversations publicly.

Even though I know the owners or mods of such forums can probably read our private messages, when thousands of people are doing it, they can’t keep an eye on all of us, so it’s easier to shut it down.

yeah I get it:
Let’s see my idea with the gray is that I used https://color.adobe.com/create/color-contrast-analyzer
though realizing that the WCGA 2.1 level was perhaps on AA and not on AAA so the ratio of colors that was already on it were being passed so I thought it was fine, i can go fix that.
Understandable, im open to feedback for the line as i wasnt sure what to pick so I sticked with the orangered color
I thought that the bold and italics were made fine? If anything it helps express my frustration or important points so im not sure on that
as for the text mixture, is there anything better I can use or should I just match the headers and paragraph colors? Again dont want to ruin the inspiration so its best to stick something along those lines

#FFC745 Yellow + #1c1c1c Grey gives a contrast ratio of 10.96 : 1. This is substantially easier to read.

Hi Dime.
Yeah honestly forums can be a different story. In general I target discord but this should apply to any big platforms that when especially discord and some others can read your messages. It is crazy how they only chose voice for E2EE but not messages and not to mention (and not to give Meta too much credit here) that Meta’s messenger got default E2EE for a little while now.

Keep in mind, despite saying all of this, is that it comes down to the party you trust and personally I don’t trust platforms like discord (who can read private messages among maybe the other data collection they do which some can be mitigated with using the web app and vencord but not all of them.) or other big platforms like it that can read Private Messages in plain text to use them properly and as I said I feel it is best I stick to this ground rule I placed to ensure that at least anyone can if discord/others(big ones) will (for me).
Email is inherently insecure and not private if not using proton or tuta, I only have it as an option for the sake of you know, everyone has it so might as well but I wouldn’t use emails for real time communication (and they’re not RTC anyway)

let me know if this is fine now and if you think headers and text should remain the same color? Right also a line color suggestion maybe.

I hear you. But when my goal is to have a conversation out of the earshot of the forums owners or mods, I’m content with settling for email. Also, I use Proton and Tuta.

Like you, and most people in this community, I don’t trust Discord. Anything you delete there is not truly deleted, so I’m very careful how I use it. I only use it on web, and for customer service with the privacy companies that are on it. I never give out details about my account, though.
