Samsung confirms its $1,800+ fridges will start showing you ads

Absolutely wild. Another reason why we need to refuse this connected devices bullshit.*

*Technically, they could be private & open-source connected products, but realistically it’s not going to happen. So better fight against connected devices in general.

Louis Rossmann recently made a video on it too. Worth a watch.

The enshittification continues. Reject smart tech for no value added reason.

This makes me so mad.

Would it hurt your brain to remember the important things that you need to remember to stock up, like food?

I want to shake the shoulder of that imaginary person so hard. I mean why do even need to offload this vital information? To have more brain rot time for Tiktok?

Yeah, I feel your frustration. Only if more people had more than an iota of critical thinking skills in such matters at-least.

Such offloading to tech is going to make the world stupider. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - all this tech making lives easier is bull shit and humans are becoming too dependent on it. It’s when my spelling skills took a huge hit when auto correct was “perfected” so you could become more complacent and bad with what you knew and it was still okay. Only in this AI world, it will make us stupid and that’s not going to end well for anyone.

Can you disable the network connection or the fridge will stop working if you do :joy:?

In a few years, you’ll have to watch an ad—or the fridge door will stay locked.

Don’t forget the Fridge+ subscription if you want to unlock lower temperature for your fridge.

Everything is funny simply in the title.

First, the fact that your fridge is controlled at a distance by a company. Wtf

Second, it shows ads! Ads are really arriving everywhere. If they could, they would put some in our dreams…

Third, the price. That’s so bad. You pay an expensive fridge, and it’s still not enough for those greedy capitalists.

Thank you @Encounter5729 @any1 you really made me laugh :joy:

This is actually something they’ve tried to do

Guys… guys… stop giving people ideas. 1984 was supposed to be a cautionary tale but somehow governments took them as suggestions for easy governance.

I am now in the camp of not giving people good bad ideas. Just leave the bad people without imagination to think for themselves.

but going back on topic, we should enact laws to prevent companies from controlling sold products. Have them be leased if they want control so that people can stop subscribing to products going bad.

They are going to have those ideas anyway IMO.

Agreed.
