Does leave the question how did this age:

From Safing Portmaster - SPN Features

I like the way the blog post is written, with no corporate language and even saying they didn’t initially want to be acquired (meaning they would prefer to have merged or something).

I honestly think this is a good news. Maybe this will allow IVPN to have more cutting edge tech into their products.

thank you!

IVPN is super Transparent with the issues that come with the VPN Protokoll and they will continue to invest into the SPN!

I know and agree. It just looks somewhat ironic

thank you, and yes we wanted to collaborate initially, but we found through the talks that an acquisition makes more sense for multiple reasons, I can probably get into some later.

Actually, I was aware of the existence of SPN, but not so much about the technical aspects and advantages. Is the SPN multi-hop capable and new form of the VPN with built-in sophisticated traffic control (e.g., specifying where country to connect per app, exit servers, etc.)?

Besides, I’m curious about the similarities and differences with Tor: Safing operates its own nodes, but also accepts volunteer nodes, and appears to have a similar network structure to Tor.

Anyway, I am now excited about the changes this event will bring!

For that please see: SPN vs VPNs

This thread is about the acquisition.

I’m really excited about the acquisition! Operating a global onion-like-network while developing a complex piece of software is a bit too much for a 2 person team. IVPN can really carry this forward and provide more robust and faster infrastructure. Congrats @Raphty, you guys really deserve some time off!

So it looks like you won’t be joining the IVPN, does that mean you have other projects in mind for the future?

yes we are not joining IVPN and yes Daniel and I start something new

I will share more when its ready on mastodon and on Things I Do

I appreciate your reply!

I just wanted to know if there was an update to this? Portmaster looks like the best way to go from all the research I’ve done!

They’re working on a network security solution called Nexufend, it appears to be enterprise oriented. You may want to make a new thread if you want to talk about this more.

I appreciate your reply!

I’m reading Solutions | Nexufend

One thing that stuck out to me that I’ve never seen said beforer is:

"Hardware-Based Firewalls Are Obsolete

Nexufend addresses all the limitations of hardware-based firewalls with a software-first solution designed for modern network security needs."

@anonymous390 I think yo are right, if people are interested, open a new thread and ping me, I am happy to hop on and share insights

regarding Portmaster

Progress is going well, Daniel and I have been somewhat involved until the v2 release, and now we only get called if the need is really there.

regarding nexufend

we see that hardware firewalls are in an evolutionary dead end, and as network needs grow more and more complex they are obsolete. DPI for one is of course super privacy invasive, but also makes your traffic more vulnerable for a questionable improvement in security. We have built a whole end to end network security solution, that segments and validates each connection.

These both sound amazing. Please keep me updated as I’m ready to make a purchase!
