Most here will be familiar with Revolt. I just found out that it went through some changes and is now called Stoat.
Many people have been asking about alternatives to Discord and I wonder if this might be a good one.
iirc, Revolt was still working on implementing e2ee. Not sure about Stout. It’s a bit confusing following progress after the rebranding.
I’d love to hear your thoughts.

It’s kind of well known in the small Discord alternatives space, but I don’t fault you for not knowing it. Personally I tried to use it for a little, but it’s a centralized platform funded solely by donations. Its future is uncertain.
this topic is about a possibly good discord alternative and I was hoping for some thoughts from the experts in the community. How is it so confusing to you 
I use Spacebar/Fermi as a Discord alternative. But it’s still buggy and the dev is still figuring how to implement end to end encryption. So I’m not sure I’d recommend it because of that.
FWIW you can host Stoat/Revolt on your own system:
I know, but then it’s separated from the main server and people have to open another account for your server. There’s really no easy answer.
If you can self host stoat/revolt I classified kinda as like a SimpleX/Matrix equivalent just without the decentralization/federation
is there a consensus on https://stoat.chat ? It’s open source and can also be selfhosted
It’s currently the best option if want something that’s just like discord. They are beholden to EU speech laws though
I wish they add the e2ee to their chats. At least in the private chats. Maybe they do and I’m not aware.
They’ve said they’re going to but it’s been years. The bar is really low when it comes to discord alternatives right now

Stoats are cute until you see what they can do to another animal. Discord is an edgy name for edgy teens. Now I view it the same way as Telegram. Discord’s image is soiled by how popular it became with groomers and gooners. I suppose you’re right though. Stoats do look like land otters. I’ve only ever seen them dragging dead rats or getting into chicken coops though.

I guess they should have kept it to revolt huh which I will agree, despite the reasoning, revolt would have been a far better software name to keep.
Unless youre going to bring something up about revolt? like “oh revolt represents revolting which is in a way a political or harmful thing”.

Revolt is a really bad name which has nothing to do with the product. Can I add you on Revolt? Would you like to join my Revolt group? It sounds like a gore sharing platform.
that’s like what stoat[formerly revolt] (or matrix) aim or have achieved, idk what you’re on about, alternatives exists and are waiting

I think it’s the most “Discord-like” platform out there, but its immaturity makes it a non-viable contender for the moment.
