Remove Stingle

From the beginning of the project, we have received only 1 security vulnerability report, which was a false one, reporter didn’t read the code carefully. However we have received a lot of contributions in form usability bug fixes and even one very obscure one in the math logic of video playback. I guess the answer to your question is the first one

We already knew that there have been no releases since October 2023 for Android.
The only release for iOS is an “initial release”.
Last closed issue for Stingle for Android was in April 2023. For iOS, it was in September 2022.
Anyone can see what Android version does the app target ? Android 14 support came with the latest release in 2023.
Looks like that their users can’t change their email in the iOS app..
When looking at code frequency in their different repositories on Github, no activity appears in years :

I encourage you all to make up your own minds about it.

@ph00lt0 @jonah @freddy shouldn’t we remove the tool? There hasn’t been a single commit since 2023. Not a single one across the organisation.

While I can understand the tool is “mature”, it still needs to be maintained, so small changes for Android versions for example.

I wouldn’t be certain any security vulnerability would be fixed timely.

We can remove it, but state to Stingle @alexamiryan that should active development restart, we can list them again (after a small period of time).

It appears to be completely dead now. Stingle.org is dead, while the play store app is still available.

I think it’s time to say goodbye to this service as there doesn’t seem to be any activity. Only a matter of time until it is removed from Google Play when the minimum API level increases.

The website isn’t dead, but it doesn’t work with some DNS providers, like my VPN’s works with cloudflare though.

Yep, appears to be working for me now too. No new blog updates in over 2yrs though. I’d say it’s still dead IMO.
