Remove Stingle

The service seems abandoned

It does seem none of the repositories have been even touched in 2024. I wonder what happened to @alexamiryan seems not any activity on their github profile.

It has not been touched once in 2024 and only twice in 2023. Many issues have piled up with no response.

It doesn’t look like there are any new issues since 2023 besides one feature request. The others have responses anyways. It’s common for issues to pile up in an issue tracker when they are low priority.

I haven’t heard of any complaints with Stingle yet. I would rather remove things based on actual problems, rather than arbitrary cutoff dates for recent development.

I understand that, but I’m also not too keen on listing projects that no longer seem to be recieving updates. After all, it is in our general criteria that tools should be in active development:

The tools that we recommend should be actively developed, unmaintained projects will be removed in most cases.

Stingle investor here. The project is very much alive and we are getting new users every day. Critical issues are being addressed and we are looking for contributors.

That’s interesting because I remember Picocrypt had a message from the developer in its repo saying he didn’t have time to maintain it anymore but it was OK because it was pretty stable at that point.

I went to check and found this:

We’ve Moved!:sparkles:

In an effort to make Picocrypt more open to future developments and maintenance from the community, this repository will be moving to github.com/Picocrypt. While future developments will likely take place there, this repository will still exist as a trusted and reliable “backup” for people who need the highest level of security and stability. For people who are more open to experimental (and potentially less stable) software, I encourage you to move over to the new Picocrypt organization’s repositories. For more details, see here. Thank you all for your support along the way!

Which is excellent news.

Then atleast release bug fixes or minor updates periodically instead of going months without anything. Since this is marketed as a privacy friendly cloud storage, regular updates will instill confidence in its users.
