Searx with google results ?

Actually want to try it but too flashy. DuckDuckGo feels just right.

Maybe it was unintentionally added or a test build got into the git, just my opinion.

This is related to their browser and not their search engine.

I tried using DDG a lot of times, but the results are just awful. Maybe I was using it wrong, don’t know why the results are so bad compared to Brave Search or Google.

My experience has been the opposite tbh. For me, Brave Search never gets me the results I am looking for.

Aren’t they the same company from Teleguard?

I’ll check that out right now. Where’d you find that at?

EDIT: Just realized that was a link. I still can’t access the source, because it’s paywalled.

Accessed it through the Internet Archive. Are there any search engines at this point that aren’t doing anything shady? Or are they all data brokers/undercover FBI agents? (other than Mojeek, and SearX for reasons)

I agree. For practically all my queries, Brave’s search engine has been superior to DuckDuckGo’s. When I find Brave’s results inadequate, I fallback to DuckDuckGo, which usually gives me decent results.

It is just personal preference. In my experience, both are fine, but Brave’s features like discussions are very useful for my use case, in addition to better results.

I never use Startpage since its results are very poor, unfortunately, and it is unbearable to use without favicons next to results.

I researched the Teleguard thing further. I’m wondering if they could’ve somehow abused the 2FA code mechanism as claimed by https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/1bav005/comment/ku8xprd/, although I couldn’t find any evidence to back them up. Also, I’ve noticed you were writing a reply for around 30 minutes and never sent it?

I disagree with your assumption, but if you really want a clean and private search engine without bloat, try Mojeek.

I’ve already tried Mojeek. Their search quality is terrible.

Honestly, I think the article is too vague to determine how they got the push token. I would like to see where The Washington Post is getting their sources from.

There is no custom links for saving preferences in brave search like DDG and startpage.

I just make site exceptions on Firefox and Brave, which solved that issue.

I just voted yes. StartPage has apparently started to fingerprint users and Thoughts on Startpage app? are concerning from me.

Plus, Brave Search is now very good. It even has started to localise results better. And Duck remains a good in general option.

I’ve emailed Startpage about the srsltid tracker, although I am not expecting a timely response.

Okay, I’ve got a response:

Thank you for bringing this to our attention and we are investigating this further.

I believe Startpage should be removed.

Because they are hostile to VPNs and Tor, often asking for a Captcha when accessing from Tor.

While I agree it should be removed, I don’t think they are hostile to TOR as they now have an onion site. Duck also ask for Captchas. Now if they are horrible Google Captchas, then I agree.
