Hi everyone! What are recommended apps or workarounds that would work seamlessly btwn apple and graphene with a macbook, ipad, & GrapheneOS phone?
Here is the basic info:
I have used nothing but apple stuff my whole life.
I purchased google pixel 8 because I wanted to switch to graphene and I need a new phone.
I have MacBook Pro, iPad, and they’re new ish so I don’t want to replace right now.
Here are the things I would REALLY like.
a replacement for Apple Notes that can be used offline and online that syncs to devices. Something not too complex but I love the checklist feature of apple notes and that you can add photos to them
Apple Photos replacement - that can sync and maintain photo library across devices
A magical probably nonexistent app that allows sms messages to sync across all devices so basically I can text from MacBook or phone or iPad as I do currently with apple devices.
I already have proton business acct so I know I can try to use for photos but it seems more like a place to back up photos rather than the app to manage your photos…I also looked at NextCloud but the photos app is already very annoying just trying to upload things as a test, I keep getting thousands of error messages and none of the photos will upload. I also can’t really use KDE Connect for the third thing I want- it doesn’t work on iOS for text functions (so I couldnt use it on ipad… Maybe I will try again with the Graphene OS phone when I have it.),
Thanks for any experiences, recommendations, or info/knowledge you can share!
I migrated at the start of the year and have found Standard Notes to be a great option. You can link files to a document and then view the linked files separately to the contents of a document.
I would look at Immich for this, I haven’t used it myself as I’ve backed up everything into proton drive and on an external drive connected to my PC and therefore don’t really care about direct management of my photos, but if it has a Mac app it would probably be your best option.
If Immich doesn’t work on Mac then I’d go with Nextcloud.
Don’t know the status of these apps on Mac because I don’t own Apple products, but I’m very satisfied with ente (ente.io) for photo management/syncing.
For Notes I kept switching between Notesnook and StandardNotes which are both good choices, but now I’m back on StandardNotes hoping it gets modernized a bit due to Proton.
Are your photos and notes currently syncing with iCloud? If they are, for Apple Photos, Notes, Reminders, and FindMy, you could create PWAs on your GrapheneOS phone to access these via iCloud for the web. Photos would need to be synced manually. Not the private solution that you are looking for but maybe a good stopgap until you figure out your long term solution.
As for a longer term solution for sms, you could use a MySudo number on your phone and link it to your Mac via their web/desktop PWA. You would need to link it again every time you want to use it on your Mac, but it is easy enough. You can use the same account on multiple devices, so your iPad can have everything too.
