I need an app to receive SMS from banks and other sources. What app on Android would you suggest for this? Thank you in advance.

Are you interested in a general SMS app or a virtual number?

For the former, QKSMS seems to be a popular option here.

Any particular reason to have another SMS app additionally to the one that come installed in your phone?

They probably want to avoid using the Google Messages app which is the default on most Android devices. I think that’s reasonable enough. Maybe GrapheneOS’s overhauled messages app will eventually be a decent alternative SMS app available on other Android devices.

I used to use signal before they removed sms support. Just went back to google messages because of lack of any trustworthy message app.

QUIK is available. It is a fork/continuation of QKSMS and I’ve been happy with it. Still in active development
