This seems to be the only FDroid SMS app that I can find that has suggested it can do encryption. Of course, SMS is not private, but to what degree can a turd be polished when dealing with companies and people that demand to use SMS?
At this point I would use Google Messages E2EE RCS over this since it usually doesn’t require convincing them to use it (if Android to Android)
If I was to convince them I wouldn’t target DekuSMS, instead I would target them to use Signal…
And you vet everything good with RCS instead of being stuck with SMS and MMS. Not to mention the fact that making it impossible to verify safety numbers (because “SMS”) over that is a huge downside.
Yes I like the concept but there’s far better solutions and if you’re gonna try to convince people to install an app, I would try Signal.
Maybe it has a place in an area where you can’t get reliable data connections, only SMS and MMS. That’s all I can think of, though.
RCS E2EE is coming with Universal Profile 3.0 so I think we should push people toward that instead of insecure SMS.
Hm, will GrapheneOS have this on their SMS app baseline?
