Recommendations for books exploring the history of hacking?

The title says it all really.

I really only have one recommendation: This Is How They Tell Me The World Ends by Nicole Perlroth. It goes quite deep but doesn’t read like a dry infosec book, I like the investigative journalism edge.

From The New York Times cybersecurity reporter Nicole Perlroth, the untold story of the cyberweapons market-the most secretive, invisible, government-backed market on earth-and a terrifying first look at a new kind of global warfare.

This is more of a self-immersive hacking experience detailing the history of locksport, but it will certainly inform you of how many known vulnerabilities remain completely unpatched by manufacturers today.

Goes as far back as the Cold War. Talks about pivotal incidents that aren’t common knowledge. Shows the competition between nation states.

Engaging book to read.

“Fun” fact: author has since then gotten into infosec VC.
