Question about Yubikey

Hi PrivacyGuides community,

I’ve got a question please; if I use one Yubikey for several accounts, can the key link me to each of my accounts associated with it?

Are Yubikeys traceable? Do accounts and Apps know my Yubikey? I mean, do the key comes with permanent and unique traceable iDs?

Do hardware security keys pose any threat to anonymity?

FIDO2 was designed with a privacy-first mindset, the entire specification is designed around preventing these threats. Your computer can identify them based on serial number or other identifiers typically, but those identifiers are never[1] shared with the websites when you use your key. They can’t be used to link identities together. Discoverable credentials (Passkeys, which store your username) can be wiped with management software. I use one Yubikey

I hope by this you mean you have multiple yubikeys protecting your accounts, as in you have multiple yubikeys (at least three) enrolled per account.

You would put yourself at risk for locking out by only having one yubikey enrolled for said accounts.
